Is it just me or did we see a lot of cats in art and figure in the mid century? What was the obsession with cats? Don't get me wrong, I love them, I just wonder why some things caught on in the 60's.
Check out this mid century modern kitty (or other animal?) I brought home a couple of weeks ago. I found it at Goodwill for $2.99. I had to keep it.... of course right? It has bizarre shell eyes that I think must have been added later. I'd love to pluck them off but fear damaging the wood if I do. I love its long neck.

If you grew up in a 50's or 60's household, do you remember any cat decor in your home?
I love cats too and have a few MCM wood kitties in my collection. Siamese cats in particular seemed to have been popular in the '60s, am wondering what tipped off the craze too!

ReplyDeleteI was pretty young in the 60's and I don't remember having much cat decor around our house but that could be because my parents did not like cats! I do have a set of 3 white glazed ceramic or possibly chalk kittens, each in different poses which are from my childhood. I love the Mid Mod Cat prints you found on Flickr. Very cool.
