Totally Atomic. Tile-top Boomerang Coffee Table.

Now that is a boomerang! Check out the angle on this baby and the gorgeous tile detail. I've never seen anything like it.

Rescued from a Hollywood Hills estate, this beauty is looking for it's new home to hang out for the next 50+ years.

Email me if you're interested and I'll put you in touch with the owner.  He's asking only $300 - makes me wish I had space for this in my home.    RhanDesign@gmail.com

Recent Finds. Yep, I'm Still Pickin' with Baby in a Sling!

I've been dreadfully absent from my blog lately.  But, with good reason.  Turns out, working a day job, running a side vintage business, keeping my house up and raising my 4.5 month old son is A LOT.   Silly me, thought I could still do it all like before baby!  Yeah, right.

With that said, I'm still managing, it just takes a little longer to get things done..

Check out some of my new finds:

Mid Century bookcase with optional plexiglass doors. I like it without. Check out those gold banded pencil legs!

1950's armless lounge chair.  This is a metal frame with a simulated wood texture.  So cool and minimal huh?

Shamrock Neatway brand plastic arm chairs.  So cute!

Awesome Danish Modern teak bar table with pop up extension.  This was used on the set of the CBS show Swingtown.  Too bad I don't have space in my house to keep this beauty. I've never seen anything like it.

Mid Century Italian men's valet chair.  The woven rope seat pops up and there is a rubber bar to place your shoe on to polish or tie a lace. Cool!

Beautiful 1950's vinyl upholstered arm chair. This is the original cherry blossom upholstery and its in amazing condition.  How precious is this?

The coolest retro mod yarn art I've seen.  I bought this from my picker friend Darren.  I'd love to keep this for my future little girl's room but I need to stop hoarding.

Art Deco Mystery Clock by Haddon.  It works perfectly and lights up.

Keep checking out my blog. I promise to write more often!

Wall Unit Refinished and In It's Place - My Home.

To no ones surprise I'm sure, the wall unit has found it's new home in my dining area.  How could it not? It's such a beautiful and rare piece.   I had a Kroehler china cabinet there before, which I loved, but this new piece blew it out of the water.  It's so sleek and I love the airy-ness (did I just make up that word?)

My husband gets all the credit for this.  He refinished it and I "supervised". I did some of the staining just so I could have a part in it, but really it's all him.  Good job honey!

Check out the before......

There was a tag inside one of the drawers at some point. Here is what's left.  Anyone have any idea??
Looks like an Sa..g....no idea!

and here is what I had in this space before. Now for sale:

Do you like the new wall unit better than the china cabinet?

I'm on the Hunt for Some Personal Pieces.

I'm currently on the hunt for these pieces for my own home: C. Jere flower/starburst sculpture, Nelson bubble lamp and a TV / media credenza.  These are not easy to find anyway, but especially hard to find at "my style prices" (def. cheap)

I missed out on a Room & Board Nelson style Cigar lamp on Craigslist this weekend because the seller obviously did not care about a first come first serve policy.   Hey, what can you do?   She was selling a brand new large Cigar Lamp for $75 OBO. They go for $379 at Room & Board.  So yeah, it stung a bit to lose out but that's how it goes.  That's okay though - I really prefer the round ball or saucer style to the cigar. Hey, I would have taken it for $75 though!

I came across the starburst / flower C. Jere sculpture on Craigslist today but I can't put out $450 for home decor at this point....nor do I really want to.  Anyone ever come across one at an estate sale or garage sale?  Not me. ;(

Lastly, I really want a new credenza in the living room for our DVD player, hubby's PS3 and the receiver.  Something kind of like this style:

Mid Century Bar. Finally Refinished!

Remember the mid century modern bar I wrote about in January?  Well, it only took 9 1/2 months but we finally got around to refinishing the bar.  It would have happened sooner but just around the time the weather got nice for outdoor refinishing I conceived and I was unable to do the work.   Finally, here we are in late September and it's complete and ready for sale:

Before:
this is what I call "dead" wood...

After:
voila, brought back to life!

We ended up taking out the pre-cut circle cup holder piece because it was really warped and beyond repair. It was a thin piece of pressed wood, while this is real wood underneath. Much better I think.

We would actually love to keep this but we truly do not have a space for it.  Need a bigger house I guess!  My husband just loooooves when I say that.  Not!

Mid Century Wall Unit with Desk Top

We scored this on Friday at a vintage sale.  I love the design and the drop down desk top.  I like this piece so much I am considering swapping out my hutch in the dining room. We'll see how it looks in the space once we get it refinished. My husband started the stripping process today.  I hope to finish this next weekend.

I don't know exactly what you call this. I call it a wall unit, but that might refer to something more like a Cado.  What would you call this piece?

Saturday Estate Sales.

I plan to go sailing this Saturday.  Here are a couple of estate sales that look very promising.  Problem is, I'd have to be in line at the crack of dawn to get the good stuff. That's just not happening at almost 6 months pregnant!  I'll let you know what happens.  Man, I'd love to nab those laurel style lamps.

#1 Estate Sale of Sol Saks, the creator of "Bewitched" television show 1960's:

#2 Old Hollywood Memorabilia at the Hollywood Castle:

This one might be fun to go to just to tour the house.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

New Furniture in My Shop

I have a garage full o' mid century to repair, refinish, restore and SELL!   Problem is I like to shop more than I like to refinish, and this year with being pregnant I can't refinish like I used to so it's all piling up.

Finally, this past weekend my hubs and I made a nice dent in the garage.  Some of it didn't even need to be refinished, I just had to dig it out and photograph.  I was able to do the easier refinishing that does not require sanding and he did all the hard work....hey, it's about time! I've refinished everything on my own up until now with baby on board.   So, soon there will be a lot of furniture in my shop. Must get my garage back!

Here's what I've managed to post so far:

Cleaned, sanded a bit, primed and painted.  Voila! Like new. I love how these came out.  So cute!

I've held on to this chair for a long time because I love it. Time to let it go. It got sanded, stained and sealed.  New vinyl upholstery.

I really love this piece but have no place for it.  Someone else can love it.

This was in my home for awhile but I traded up with a larger book shelf. Time to let this move into a new home.  No refinishing on this - being sold as is.  The books will hide scratches it has anyway.

Jason Lewis Furniture *New* Mid Century Modern

I recently came across the beautiful mid-century inspired furniture designs of Jason Lewis and wondered if anyone else knew his name?

While I will always prefer originals I do get that plenty of people want the style without all the scuffs and marks and want it to look brand new.

 Some of his gorgeous chairs:

RC01 Rocking Chair $1850

C03 Dining Chair $1150

C04 Spindle Dining Chair $1250

C02 Dining Chair $1150

RC03 $1750

Waaaaay out of my price range but pretty nonetheless!
