New Vintage Finds! Space Age, Industrial, Mod.

I've been pickin'!  Here are some of my recent finds:

Clip on yellow lamp. Love these!  They're so versatile: office, loft, reading nook, bedroom...

Industrial, minimalist "bullet" gooseneck lamp.

Here fishy, fishy, fishy!  Ash trays?  Not sure. Mid century coolness?  Yes.

Tulip base General Electric table top clock. I can't resist a tulip base so I'm keeping this one!

Space age-y mod Hallmark Ricoh "flip" clock. Made in Japan.

Mod round mirrors in green.  Fun for any room in your home.

70's style mod mirror. Not my thing but I know someone wants this in their grooovy pad.

Fabulous ball lamp on bright yellow base.  This one is staying with me, for now anyway.

Atomic tripop plant stand or ashtray.  I have one I use as a planter and I'm debating if it needs a friend...?

Whenever I see mid century electrical plates I snatch them up.  These beauties would look perfect in a Regency setting.

Mid century mod door knobs.  Make one door very happy!

Mid century Rya-esque red rug.  Great color palette.  Puuuuurty, huh? ;)

Plastic fish paper plate holders. Get your retro BBQ on.

Have a fabulous Memorial Day weekend friends!

Milo Baughman Brass X Bench for Thayer Coggin.

I happened across this beauty and before I even flipped it over I knew who it was.  Sure enough, Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin.

Solid brass X style base with an upholstered plush top.  This just screams Hollywood Regency doesn't it? If the buyer doesn't fancy the original upholstery, this would be very easy to change.

I've only found a few others online, and the price is steep. I'll need to have mine appraised and then it's going into my shop! Let me know if you're interested!

Mint condition @ 1st Dibs $4800

Sold at Orion's Objects $2400 (copper base)

Sold at City Issue price unknown

Vintage 50's & 60's Weddings on the Rise.

1950's - 60's themed weddings are all the rage.  Google it and you'll get endless pages with inspiration.  I personally LOVE vintage inspired weddings.  Like I even had to say that, right?

Just pulled from the web: "It's now been claimed the couple (Singer Adele and her fiance) are finalizing wedding details, with their special day taking place at the end of July. They reportedly want the day to have a '50s theme, although the fine details remain a secret."

My July 2006 wedding had some historical elements, but it was not "vintage" per se.  Our ceremony was in a European inspired church in downtown Los Angeles and our reception was at the historic Castle Greene in Pasadena.  It had an old-world vibe, but....it was not 50's.  I was not in full mid-century swing just yet, or you bet it would have been.

If my hubby and I renew our vows someday, it will be 50's themed.  Enough about me....

Dressing the Vintage Part. Vintage Clothing and Accessories.

Thanks to shows like Mad Men, and the re-make of The Great Gatsby, the vintage clothing craze has gone wild.  It's not enough to groom our homes vintage style, we too must look the part.  You must admit, they had some great style!  The cuts, the curves, the colors - just gorgeous.  Women were feminine, sexy, sophisticated.  Men were handsome, polished, dapper.  Picture Don Draper or Robert Redford as Gatsby....need I say more?

It used to be a pain to find quality vintage clothing.  Today, it's at our fingertips - just do a quick internet search and you'll find store after store dedicated to the 50's, 60's and other eras.  Many even offer new reproductions if you want the look but not the dust.

One of my favorites for new vintage clothing is Shabby Apple.
Vintage clothing can be worn on it's own or mixed with modern.   It's so versatile and fun!

Check out some of my favorite looks below...

Channeling Betty Draper.....

For the hipster wedding, like Keira Knightly just had!

So precious. I could live in this sweet little dress.

Simple, minimal, subtleties that make a huge impact.  How sweet are these dresses?

Industrial Modern Style Bun Warmers....As Art?

Industrial Modern Style Bun Warmers -  Yes, you read that right. On a trip to Vegas a couple of months back I managed to find a hoarder / collector....aren't we all on that fine line?... who had some pretty cool stuff...... all. over. his. property. I just love digging in places like that.  It makes me feel so Mike from America Pickers.  Anyway, back to the point.

I always look for the unusual and here, I found it.  I saw stacks of these industrial modern looking metal sheets.  Immediately I pictured them on a wall in a loft space.  Turns out they are old bun warmers from a 50's bakery in Las Vegas.  He also had copper colored pastry warmers, which I bought for my home, and hot dog bun warmers.  It took me a while to get around to posting these in my shop, but immediately after they were up, 2 sold.   Hmmm, I knew I should have purchased more than 5!  I will be visiting this man again on our next trip.
