Scored a Scoop Chair and Lost a Credenza.

Let's begin with the bad news and get it out of the way.  Ugh, this one stings....  You know I've been hunting for a mid century credenza for a long time now.  I want something long and simple on peg legs with ample space inside to house my hubby's boy-toys: PS3, DVD player, receiver, etc.  It needs to have sliding doors so I can hide all the electronics from sight.  AND I don't want to pay $800 for it.  Well, wouldn't you know, the ideal piece showed up today for $200 OBO and I missed it. Ahhhhhhh I hate that, but that's how Craigslist goes huh?  Let me wipe my tears....

Gone baby, Gone!

On a happy side, I found a scoop chair yesterday.  I've always loved this style but I rarely see them on Craigslist and have never seen one at an estate sale.  I guess it goes to show if you're patient, you can find what you want.  That's me sending out positive vibes so another credenza pops up.

Now, granted, my scoop chair is no Carter Brothers Scoop like Dana's of Mid2Mod, but it's still cute and it looks really great in our living room with our super low couches.

I might change the upholstery but it's pretty good as-is for now.

And Dana's amazing Carter Brother's Scoop Chair - drool!

I'm on the Hunt for Some Personal Pieces.

I'm currently on the hunt for these pieces for my own home: C. Jere flower/starburst sculpture, Nelson bubble lamp and a TV / media credenza.  These are not easy to find anyway, but especially hard to find at "my style prices" (def. cheap)

I missed out on a Room & Board Nelson style Cigar lamp on Craigslist this weekend because the seller obviously did not care about a first come first serve policy.   Hey, what can you do?   She was selling a brand new large Cigar Lamp for $75 OBO. They go for $379 at Room & Board.  So yeah, it stung a bit to lose out but that's how it goes.  That's okay though - I really prefer the round ball or saucer style to the cigar. Hey, I would have taken it for $75 though!

I came across the starburst / flower C. Jere sculpture on Craigslist today but I can't put out $450 for home decor at this point....nor do I really want to.  Anyone ever come across one at an estate sale or garage sale?  Not me. ;(

Lastly, I really want a new credenza in the living room for our DVD player, hubby's PS3 and the receiver.  Something kind of like this style:

I wish it was Sunday, cause that's my fun day.....

"My I don't have to run day...."  For anyone not getting it, that's Manic Monday by The Bangles, one of the greatest girl bands of the 80's and perhaps of all time.

Sunday is indeed my "fun day".  Well kind of.  Let's call if my "not work as hard and try to relax a little day".    Today was what I call a  working fun day.  It's work mixed in with something fun.  Hey, I try.  My hubby and I went up north 45 minutes to Ventura, a cozy and charming beach town.  I bought a mid century stereo cabinet/credenza and a Mersman side table from the lovely and very nice Jessie.  She informs me it's a great place to estate sale.  You can bet I'll be going up a couple of times a month for some "sailing" then.

Here is the credenza and the table.  The credenza was shot in her home, the table in mine.   I plan to refinish the credenza but the Mersman is good to go as is.  I'll be sure to post the refinish after photo.

And on to the "fun" stuff.  We hit about 6 thrift stores.  Yeah, that's still classified as work but it's fun too.  Look what I found in one shop....the others were kind of a bust.

Well hello lovelies.  I'm taking you home!  Purchased these 3.  Plus I found a large brown and gold pattern Pyrex bowl in excellent condition.  The pyrex, Dansk Kobenstyle pot and green sauce pot will be posted in my shop.  The vase found a new home on my Lane console table in the entry. Doh!  I hate when that happens!

I saw this vintage rolling cart with glass shelves.  Pretty cool but I didn't buy it.

And something strange......  remember how I like bizarro things?  Did not purchase this guy.

Walking downtown I spotted this Morris Woody....oh I wish!  Asking price $25K

Then off to the Marina for lunch.  Check out these fishing boats......

Fresh Fish and Chips.  Mmmmm deep fried.  I'm enjoying this with NO guilt!  Look at my husband get his dip on!

And on the way home... LOOK at this ADORABLE car we saw!  I want it, I want it, I want it!

Brasilia induces heart palpitations...

My all time favorite mid century design is Brasilia by Broyhill. My heart thumps harder when I see the stunning, sweeping design. It's true perfection in my eyes.

The Brasilia collection was created in 1962. Inspired by the architecture in the city of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, it's clear to see where the stunning design came from.

Though more than 50 years old the design is just as striking, if not more so, in the modern day.

They just don't make them like this anymore.

Below are some current Ebay finds that make me want to go without eating or getting hair cuts, or paying the mortgage to afford...uh, maybe not that last one but what I would do for these pieces, my oh my!

What do you think of Brasilia?

Craigslist Love - Mid Century Galore

I love me some Craigslist. So much of my MCM furniture has come from Craigslist Los Angeles. I love to browse to see what's out there. It's a good way for me to zone out and take a break in my day. It's also torture because I always want so many things. I just can't resist.

Here are my latest faves in Los Angeles:

Danish Modern Rocker - I'd marry this chair

Mid Century Credenza / TV stand - Love the lines and simplicity of this.

Low Mid Century Sofa with Attached Side Table - Someday I will own one! I love these.

Mid Century Modern Danish Style Wall Unit - I wish I had a wall for this!

Mid Century Hanging 3 Bulb Chandelier - Simply stunning.

Gio Ponti Style High Back Chairs - These are like art to me.

Vintage 1950's Baby Blue Loveseat with Sweetheart Back - What a sweet little sofa. Great color!

Eero Saarinen Womb Chair in White - So Beautiful. I would sink into this and read a great book.

Mid Century Tiered Side Table - I love the cutouts on the sides.

Cute Mid Century Nightstand or Side Table - What a fun piece to add a pop of color to the room.

Classic Eames Era Ball Pendant - So simple and gorgeous. I want this!

What's your favorite?

I'm in Love......

Oh my, look what I found in someone's home when I stopped by to purchase a lamp via Craigslist......

These are mint condition, mid century Danish lounge chairs like no other. I've always loved this low sitting lounge design and have two myself, but these are amazing and unique. The curved wood of this design is rare. I think this was the best era of furniture design. Anyone with me?

What was going to be a quick stop and shop turned into a "field trip" of unbelievable pieces that I could not buy, only covet. Uh, what torture. ..... a mint condition laurel lamp with mushroom shade, a sleek side chair with perfect peg legs and flawless vinyl seat, a credenza that was out of this world, a perfect set of nesting tables.... need I go on? The worst part? She didn't like any of it but kept it because everything belonged to her husband's mother.

And another photo of the chairs that makes my heartbeat fast.....
