Mid Century Chairs.

Happy Monday!   Let's get to it.  Let's talk about chairs.  So you all know by now I have a chair addiction.  Though I have no room for anything else in my house (unless I swap things out) I picked up 2 (more) chairs on Thursday.  I was at a meeting early in the morning so on my way home of course I had to swing by a couple of thrift stores in that neighborhood.  

First stop, Goodwill.  I walked away with only one little thing, but I love it and it's already on my desk: a gold perpetual calendar.   Second and last stop, because I've got to cut myself off somewhere or I could easily spin-off into a day-long thrift-ing spree, I found 2 mid century chairs.  I almost didn't go to this store because I really needed to get home but  thought, "What if they have something great in there"?  Right?  Well, they did.  Two mid century chairs:

Since my living room sofa change-up last weekend I decided I needed a mid century/danish lounge chair to finish the space off.  So, there in the thrift store was a lounge chair! That never happens - actually finding something you are looking for.  I scooped it up with plans to reupholster it.  I can't take the plaid!  Next, an adorable wood dining style chair. It's perfect for accent or as a desk chair OR a dining chair if you're someone that is bold enough to use mixed styles of chairs at your table.  Don't know where it's going but I like it.

Unfortunately, nothing is that easy though. I placed this lounge chair in my living room (I was very excited) and because the back is high it doesn't look quite right next to my sofas (West Elm's Tillary) which are reeeeeaaaally low.  Dang it! Thought I had it all figured out!  So, looks like this lounge is going in my shop and the search continues.

I HAD the perfect lounge chair but sold it to someone in NYC.  At the time I didn't need it.  Woops.  Turns out hoarding can pay off sometimes.  It would have been perfect.  Oh well!

* I even restored this chair so I had extra love for it. It was painted green when I found it. 

I might try placing my Overman pod chair in the living room today to see if it works. I kinda already know it won't look right but we'll try and see..... I should post pics of all the chair options and let you guys critique.

Lastly, I've been toying with the idea of placing my recently acquired Bertoia side chairs in the living room - though they are not practical to sit on for long periods.  It would be more of a "statement" design....but am I that girl?  My hubby and I like to really lounge in the living room, so the Bertoias might seem out of place.

All my DUX in a row...

Well, rather my one DUX.  I wish I had a row!  I happened across this DUX chair on Craigslist on Sunday night.  Once in awhile a strange thing happens and somehow a "mid century" listing gets lost in the huge mix on Craigslist Los Angeles and goes unnoticed.  This was one of those times I guess because the posting was to expire in 1 day and it was still available, at a thrift store price.     I scooped it up on Monday.  Once the rain subsides here I plan to refinish it.  As is it looks pretty good though.

I am a HUGE fan of Wegner's Y and Wishbone chair so I just love the scooped back of this DUX.  The straight and angular legs are pretty attractive too.  Kind of Zelig looking no?  Not sure what I will do with this chair. I think it's destined for my Etsy shop. I really wish I could somehow have a huge room to "display" chairs.  I really would display them, like art.  It would look something like the chair display at Silica Three in North Hollywood.  Silica Three is a 12,000 ft warehouse full of to die for imported Danish furniture.....but at imported Danish furniture prices.   It's fun to browse and dream but I'll stick with my estate sales and thrift stores for my purchases.

Plycraft Beam of Sunshine on my Rainy Day

It's a rainy day in Los Angeles. Wish I was sitting in this chair with a nice cup of tea.

I suppose it's good though, after a week-long triple digit heatwave and we need the rain around here. Just a little disappointing to leave the sunshine to go to Seattle for a long weekend, and return to rain. Oh well!

While waiting on the sun to return to my life, this beam of light, aka an original plycraft lounge chair, sent me a much needed jolt! The rain makes you sleepy right?

Check out this motherlode of a set (found on Craigslist Los Angeles): An original leather Plycraft Mr. Chair and ottoman by George Mulhauser (as stated).

It has loving been restored with crisp white leather upholstery. G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S! And the boomerang coffee table is gorgeous too! What a set!

White would never last around my house though. I lovingly share it with a messy, ehem, not-as-neat-as-I-would-like husband, and 3 cats who enjoy 60's furniture too - yeah, like they have any idea they are sitting on original mid century pieces!

Oh my, look what I found in someone's home when I stopped by to purchase a lamp via Craigslist......



These are mint condition, mid century Danish lounge chairs like no other. I've always loved this low sitting lounge design and have two myself, but these are amazing and unique. The curved wood of this design is rare. I think this was the best era of furniture design. Anyone with me?

What was going to be a quick stop and shop turned into a "field trip" of unbelievable pieces that I could not buy, only covet. Uh, what torture. ..... a mint condition laurel lamp with mushroom shade, a sleek side chair with perfect peg legs and flawless vinyl seat, a credenza that was out of this world, a perfect set of nesting tables.... need I go on? The worst part? She didn't like any of it but kept it because everything belonged to her husband's mother.
