Danish Modern Teak Planters.

I came across this teak planter. Had to have it. Do I need a planter?  Nope.

It's simple, minimalist (redundant?) and cute.  It's not the planter to end the search for planters, but I like it.  We'll see.....

New Finds This Week.

This just in...

Danish Modern bar stool.  Marked Made in Denmark.
I just posted a set of 3 of these exact barstools on my blog.  Then I went and found one myself.  Unfortunately I only found ONE and what am I going to do with one barstool?  It doesn't look great at my breakfast bar anyway so it's going in my shop.

Cool side table or nightstand.  It has a solid milk glass style top but it's cracked. I think I'll replace the top with glass, find new hardware, refinish the wood and put it in my shop.

Mid Century Modern 2 seater couch.  One side is armless making it perfect to place a little side table. I'll refinish this and post it soon.  Check out that funky shagalicious green upholstery.

Mid Century metal mirror and matching shelf. This has a cool gothic, medieval feel.

C. Jere era metal boats wall art

Wall frame with shelves

Wall clock

Table clock

More coming soon!  I'm hitting more sales this weekend.

Made in Denmark. Mid Century Lounge Chair.

I've been absent lately.  I'm so busy with work and baby stuff. I'll try to be better!

Quick post: I wanted to share one of our recent finds. We had a great month of finding furniture in the most random places.  Now our garage is stacked to the ceiling and to the door - literally. I should post a picture.....

We happened across this chair at a small sale.  It is stamped Made in Denmark. It was originally black but the stain/paint had faded and was scuffed. My dear husband sanded the whole chair and repainted it to perfection.  The straps are original.  It just needs new cushions (and a new home).

Jens Risom. Danish Modern.

Jens Risom is one of the great Danish designers of the mid century.  The son of an architect, Jens was destined to create some incredible designs during his life.   Indeed, that's what he did.

Jens Risom (1916-     )
This beautiful and talented man is still with us!

He is considered one of the greats of the mid century designers and many of his pieces can be found in museums including The Museum of Modern Art NY, Yale University Art Gallery, Brooklyn Museum, Rhode Island School of Design Museum and Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, the United State's museum of design history and contemporary design.

Jens trained at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Arts and Design and then traveled to New York to continue his studies.  In 1941 he partnered with Hans Knoll, which led to the creation of Hans Knoll Furniture Company in 1942.   (Post on Hans and Florence Knoll coming soon)!

In 1943 he was drafted into the US Army where he served under General Patton.  After his return from service he only briefly re-joined Knoll.  In 1946 Jens started his own design firm: Jens Risom Design (JRD).

Poul Cadovius. CADO Wall Units and Much More.

Personal status: back from Florida, still sick with upper respiratory infection, still blogging, still etsy-ing!  I don't know how to "rest".  What's that?

If you're a mid century fanatic you are probably familiar with, or in my case obsessed with, CADO wall units.  You know, the massive (beautiful, genius, practical, striking, need I go on....) wood shelving systems from the 1950's - 1970's that attach to a wall?

A true CADO got it's name from Danish architect Poul Cadovius.  The wall unit was first designed from a personal need; he was looking for a system that would provide maximum storage space but would also blend into the atmosphere seamlessly.

Take a look at some of his incredible wall system designs below...and did you know he is responsible for a multitude of other furniture pieces too?

Maybe someday I'll have my own CADO......

Mid Century Repros For Those Who Like "New"

Though I love originals and the character and history that comes with them, there are plenty of people who love the mid century and/or Danish design but want new things.

I happen to love the scratches and the "used" feeling that comes with my pieces and knowing that someone that lived in that era actually had them in their home.  Very cool!

But, I get that people don't like that so if you are one of those people, there are plenty of surprisingly good reproductions available for you.  Here are some of my favorites...though there are a lot more than this if you search a bit...
