Roadtrip to Brasilia-ville!

Yesterday I traveled 170 miles one way to pick up my very own Broyhill Brasilia dresser set.  I drove from Encino, California to San Luis Obispo, California (for those of you that know California areas).  170 miles is not as bad as it sounds.  I've made this drive a hundred times before because I lived on the Central Coast the entire decade of the 90's.  I still have friends in the area. Plus, it's a beautiful drive.  And last but not least, it's Brasilia!  Of course I'd drive 2.75 hours for a 4 piece set at a ridiculous price!   Hey, my friend Mr. Modtomic drove 5 hours each way for his Brasilia headboard and nightstand!

I thought I'd take  you all along with me for the ride.  Let's go....

Leaving Los Angeles @ 2:30.  Brasilia, here I come!

About 40 minutes in.  On the coast in Ventura.  Ah, the magnificent Pacific!

Just over 1  hour in now.  Made it to Santa Barbara and I'm taking a shortcut on San Marcos pass hwy 154.  It winds through the mountains and into wine country and will save me 20-30 minutes in my trip!

Connecting back onto the 101 freeway.  We just went through the Los Olivos area; home of Micheal Jackson's now defunct Neverland Ranch.  

5:45 pit stop in Nipomo. Gotta pick up Mom!  Only 20 minutes from San Luis Obispo now.

Yay, the set is officially mine and packed in my truck!  Phew, just fit without an inch to spare.  Ahhh check out that mirror!  

Now off to San Luis' Thursday night farmer's market! 

And a quick stop to see how the disgusting "Gum Wall" is coming along since I've lived here. Status: A lot more gum! 

Not a bad trip right?  I'll post pictures of the entire set when I get back home on Sunday.  I'm hanging out with Mom for the rest of the weekend.  

I plan to still hunt for vintage even though my Explorer is packed. Hey, Mom can hoard some stuff for me and I can pick it up later right?  

My Very Own Brasilia

It's a wonderful day for Rhan Vintage.  After coveting and dreaming of my very own piece of Broyhill's Brasilia line for many, many years, I'll get my own tomorrow.

I'll be traveling more than 3 hours one way to pick up a triple dresser, mirror and matching night stands. They are coming to me a mess, from the second owner.  The night stands have been painted black, 2 drawers of the dresser have been painted black and all of the pieces will need sanding to remove years of scratches and water stains.  That's okay though, I don't mind the work.  I'll post before and after pics!

It's Monday and back to reality! New shop items.

Well folks, it's back to reality.  My 2 weeks of holiday bliss are over...I'm sure you can relate. It's always strange getting back into the real world after 2 weeks of over eating & drinking, staying up/sleeping in, entertaining, and so on.   I was up early today and put in a full work day.   It's nice to be back on a schedule.  I like a routine in my chaotic life.

To give myself credit, I did man-up and got something done during my slob-fest, I mean holiday break; I created a website for Rhan Vintage.   I've been thinking about it for awhile and actually got it done in one evening because I got a wild-hair to knock it out and check it off the list.  What cha think?

And here's a peek at a few things that are going on Rhan shop tonight.  I managed to photograph them during a quick peek-through of sunshine today.  I need that natural light for good pictures.

Of course this is just a slice of a gigantic pie of vintage items that are taking over my garage. It's a start though and my shop followers will be happy to see some fresh inventory.

New Year Resolution #1: Keep blog up!  Try to be more like Mr. Modtomic in that regard.  Dang he's good!  

New Year Shopping

Happy New Year!  What does Rhan Vintage do to celebrate? She shops for vintage!

Yes, it's true, I was up bright and early New Year's day to pick up some awesome mid century pieces I found on Craigslist Los Angeles.  I came across a mid century bar that had been posted on Christmas day. It was listed as "50s retro bar with jupiter legs and light".  Sounds interesting right?  I wrote on the 30th and got a call back on the 31st around 6pm.  Surprise, it was still available.   My hubby even came with me to pick it up and I got the comment: "This is fun". HUH?  Could it be he's coming around and possibly catching the vintage-hunt bug?

Here's how the bar looked in the ad:

and here it is pictured back at my house.... the top folds down to reveal a bar with spots to hold your glasses and a mirror back.  The bottom opens up to reveal open space for storing your bottles.  There is a light in the bottom.  Cool right? 

Now it sits in my garage waiting for a sunny day to get sanded and re-stained.  It definitely needs work but I love a challenge and I look forward to seeing it restored.  Even though I don't  have a space for it in my home I think I will "make room" somehow. It's too cool to part with.   Anyone have one of these or remember them from their childhood? No maker's mark on this one. 

I also picked up these 2 items from the same cool girl, Darcy.  Usually where you find one mid century piece for sale you find others.  Check out this awesome little table with white top and the fantastic 50's stool/ottoman with it's original pink and black upholstery:

I've got lots of refinishing to do as well as photographing new pieces for my shop. But, it's raining today so it will all have to wait.  What's a girl to do on a rainy Sunday?  Go to Goodwill of course!  They're open on Sunday.
