Is it just me or did we see a lot of cats in art and figure in the mid century? What was the obsession with cats? Don't get me wrong, I love them, I just wonder why some things caught on in the 60's.
Check out this mid century modern kitty (or other animal?) I brought home a couple of weeks ago. I found it at Goodwill for $2.99. I had to keep it.... of course right? It has bizarre shell eyes that I think must have been added later. I'd love to pluck them off but fear damaging the wood if I do. I love its long neck.

I love cats too and have a few MCM wood kitties in my collection. Siamese cats in particular seemed to have been popular in the '60s, am wondering what tipped off the craze too!
How cool! I love the stylized mid-century cats.
I've always wondered about the cat attraction in mcm design/decor too. I really like the one you brought home.
i always wanted to know too...any idea would be great :)
I was pretty young in the 60's and I don't remember having much cat decor around our house but that could be because my parents did not like cats! I do have a set of 3 white glazed ceramic or possibly chalk kittens, each in different poses which are from my childhood. I love the Mid Mod Cat prints you found on Flickr. Very cool.
I was a young child in the 60's but I do remember a cat print on our living room wall that I since found out it is a Robert Jones print. I've been looking for it everywhere and found it on Pinterest here:

Now if I can only find one to buy. I love vintage!
