Frederick Arndt Mid Century Inspired Wooden Art

I was perusing Etsy and came across the incredible woodworking art of Frederick Arndt.  I had to share!

Clearly his designs are inspired by the space-agey, mod shapes of the 1950's and 1960's, yet his work still feels new and fresh, and very much his own.

From amoebas to boomerangs, and Eames dots to starbursts, any mid mod shape your heart desires can be found in these handmade wooden creations.

Here are just a few. Find more at his Etsy shop FredArndtArtworks

Mid Mod Bird House and Handmade Pottery.

A recent trip to my picker friend Darren's home revealed his new talent: creating modern pottery.  Apparently in his "spare time" he'd taken up spinning a pottery wheel.  Really?  And I thought I crammed a lot into 24 hours.

Turns out he's quite good at it.  So good I recommended he open an Etsy shop and he did: Mock Pottery.

Take a look at some of his beautiful modern creations:

AP-influenced stacked cone planters.

I just call this "Fingers".
Amazing. I want this!

Minimalist bird house.
This is mine, hanging on my front porch.  Lucky birds!

Mini AP style double cone vases.  Fabulous!

A collection of his personal pieces.

I love a simple pedestal vase.  And how beautiful is the candle holder?
See them lit up in his shop.

Mid Century Paintings and Wall Art.

This weekend was so busy that I did not have the time, um actually the energy, to post.  Friday was a really busy day then it was up bright and early Saturday morning to hit the sales.  It was a good day for shopping!   Sunday was all about errands, cleaning, shooting pictures, etc.

Saturday: The first sale we (my Mom and I) hit was a jack pot!  Not only was it close to my house but it was pure mid century and everything was el-cheapo! The woman and her 2 sons running the sale were so nice and fun.  I just love that!  My mom and I bought so much we filled up the back of my Ford Explorer.  We had to go back home and unload before we could hit more sales.  We made it back home around 2 pm, just beat.  That's 6 hours of estate sail-ing!

One of my favorite purchases from Saturday (the first sale) is this pretty mid century oil painting of a woman in a flower field. Though I tend to favor cityscapes and abstracts I just  love the bright yellow color and the mysterious woman.  If I had a place for it in my home I would keep it.  It's signed B. Alba, or at least that is what it looks like.  I have not been able to find any information on this person.

Here is the painting. It's huge at just over 3' x 3'.  This post inspired me to share the artwork in my home and find a few favorites on Etsy too:

and others living in my home currently...some of these you've seen in previous posts...

Huge oleograph by Edgar A. Stareck.  For sale!

Original oil by Ozz Franca.

Adorable retro yarn picture.

Marina/cove print. I cannot make out the signature.  Dated '60.

Huge mixed media abstract in my dining area.

My beloved big-eyed dog and cat oleographs by Gia. Sorry for the crappy picture. The little doggy is not washed out - it's a weird light reflection.

Original oil city scape. I cannot make out the signature.

Chip art picture.  I  found this one a couple of weeks ago.

Gigantic metal flying bird wall sculpture. One of my favorite thrift store finds!  I don't believe it's actually mid century but it's my version of Jere flying birds until I can acquire the real-deal.

Syroco wall plaques. My aunt sent these to me from Utah. Thanks Charlotte!

My big-eyed Keane girls.  I have yet to find space for these!

Toot Toot ... Rhan Vintage Features

I work so hard on my vintage shop and dedicate so much time to it that I feel good about an occasional toot of my own horn.  So, Toot Toot!

Rhan Vintage was recently featured......

Featured on Etsy Finds; this is a mid century modern swag frame for a hanging lamp.  It's super cool looking as-is but could be restored to it's original purpose as a hanging lamp.  Click here to see the listing and check out the last picture, which shows what it should look like.

My Eames-inspired mid century chair was featured in the "One Man's Junk" article on Etsy Storque Blog.  Check out the chair in my shop here.

And a nice little feature about organization on Design By Cassandra included my gold tone apple box.

Thanks for listening and checking out my recent features.  It makes me smile and makes all the hard work worth it!  There's nothing more rewarding than seeing my finds recognized and placed in appreciative homes with other vintage-lovers.

New Lamp. Mid Century Modern.

I found this (gigantic) beauty of a lamp at Goodwill a couple of weeks back.   Of course I purchased it with all intention of selling it in my Etsy shop for someone else to love.  Wouldn't you know it, I get it home and bam!  it's "somehow" placed in my front entry room.  I just hate when that happens!

I moved some things around to accommodate the lamp and I'm not 100% in love with the look of the space but I can't bring myself to part with it.  It's a bit too busy in this area for my taste.  I've since moved the starburst clock down and too the right a bit. It was just floating in space up there.  I also added the green vase to the Lane table (the one from Salvation Army during my Ventura trip).  I guess it will have to do for now.  What do you think?

The lamp itself is in like new condition. It's hard to believe considering it's been around for 50+ years.  Someone took care of it...thank you someone.  Pretty huh?
