Narvik Armchair by Fler

I originally posted this chair as a "Can you help me identify it"? But, a little digging and I found it myself.  I felt it was sort of a Wegner look, but there was something unique to it that I had never really seen before.

It's a Narvik chair for Fler, designed by Fred Lowen.  Circa 1960.  Scandinavian design, made in Australia.  Apparently it's a highly coveted design because of the wide armrests and sculptured "horns" on the back.

Quick search and it appears to be of Australian pedigree. Probably mid 60's. Really nice lines! Have to dig deeper for a designer though...

Yes, found a lot of beautiful Fler pieces on Ebay AU.

That's a really beautiful chair! I know very little about Australian furniture design, and I keep telling myself I need to learn more about it, especially since I read several Australian blogs.

Hi there, good work finding the maker! I'm an Aussie, and an MCM addict. The Fler Narvik is probably one of the most collectable Australian chair designs, the shape is truly gorgeous. Fred Lowen later started Tessa (still going today) which has a chunkier 70s vibe, and really solid, comfy armchairs.

The most covetable (and expensive) Aussie designs are Grant Featherston. Worth looking up if you're interested.

I have to say though, you guys have all the luck with Mid-Century design in California!
