Sol Saks Estate.

I did not battle the crowds and early dawn hours to be one of the first in line at the Sol Saks estate sale.  I was just too tired and had an inkling the prices would be high.  Instead, I went on Sunday.  Yes, the sale was picked over but my feeling was correct, the prices were very high.  The blue mid century arm chair pictured in my last post from this sale?  $600.  Out of my league!  The smalls that  were left were over-priced too, even on the second day.

I really wanted to go just to see the mid century-esque house.  It did not disappoint.  Set South of the boulevard in the hills in Sherman Oaks, California, the sprawling 21,000 square foot lot of land featured a modern bi-level home with floor to ceiling windows, lots of light, a spiral staircase and an incredible entertainer's back yard.  It was fun to peek into some Hollywood history.

Sol Saks was the writer of the 1960's series Bewitched.  He died April 2011 at the age of 100.

Glad you got to see the house! I had wondered if the prices would be high too, but seeing the place was most of the fun anyway.

I got there Saturday morning around 10 and had to wait about ten minutes. It was so worth it. Hard to beleive we were at the same sale because because I actually found some fantastic bargains. There was so much history in the house that I ended up coming back on Sunday (with no wait.) Did you know that James Dean lived right next door?

Sounds like I missed the good deals on Saturday and I saw the leftovers on Sunday. Too bad. ;(

At least you got to see the house. I heard it will soon be demolished. I'm glad you posted photographs!
