Mid Century Furniture Designs I Haven't Seen Before.

It's always fun to come across a mid century modern furniture design I have not seen.  Just when you feel like you've seen it all, something different pops up. It's exciting to know there is still a lot I do not know.

Check out this dresser and chest on Ebay.  At $495 a piece, I think that's  a great deal.  Here in So. Cali you'd be looking at $1000 + per piece.  Well, OF COURSE these are in Missouri. I'm convinced this is where all the incredible mid mod pieces hide out.

Ah, just check out that gorgeous detail......woweeee

The seller does not note a maker but says it's similar to Kent Coffey's Perspecta line.  Eh, kind of.  Anyone know about this design?

Painting Vintage and Mid Century Modern Furniture.

I recently sold a little cut-out Heritage table locally. I loved it as is but always thought it was the perfect design for a fresh coat of bright paint. Check out what the new owner did with it:

What do you think?  Are you a purist or open to mod colors on vintage furniture?

Update: Modern Baby Nursery Purchases

I'm a planner.  Before I was even pregnant I had an idea of what the nursery would look like: a nice blend of contemporary with vintage, clean streamline white furniture, warm grey walls, and pops of color through bedding and decor.

I recently posted about modern baby cribs and featured some of my dream cribs. Well, I have accepted I cannot and will not spend $1000 on a crib.  I have settled on Baby Mod's Olivia set.  It's made by the same people that make Babyletto and other modern baby furniture but at a fraction of the price.  Love that!

My 1970's French Provencial Bedroom Set is For Sale. Attention Regency Lovers!

Okay, after much deliberation I've decided to sell my beloved retro, French Provencial childhood bedroom set.  I'm still a bit wishy-washy about the decision but I can't store this until I have a daughter that might like it - that would be maybe 10 years from now.....and it doesn't go with my mid-century/danish modern home. If I had a spare bedroom to build around this, believe me, I'd keep it.

My Very Own Brasilia

It's a wonderful day for Rhan Vintage.  After coveting and dreaming of my very own piece of Broyhill's Brasilia line for many, many years, I'll get my own tomorrow.

I'll be traveling more than 3 hours one way to pick up a triple dresser, mirror and matching night stands. They are coming to me a mess, from the second owner.  The night stands have been painted black, 2 drawers of the dresser have been painted black and all of the pieces will need sanding to remove years of scratches and water stains.  That's okay though, I don't mind the work.  I'll post before and after pics!

In the meantime, here are some Brasilia pieces to admire.  And check out my former post on Brasilia furniture here.

Atomic Age Dresser and Desk Set

Check out this funky and unique set from the 1950's!  I purchased this atomic style dresser and desk set this past Saturday from an estate sale.  It was a fun couple of hours.   The daughter of the woman who had recently moved in to an elderly home was the only person running the sale. She was quite a character and so much fun to meet and talk to.  She had stories about every single item in that home.

The house....well if you've seen the show "Hoarders" that will give you a good idea of what some of the rooms looked like in this home.  Fortunately I'm not afraid to dig and climb and rummage.  I actually kind of like it.  It makes me feel like Mike or Frank from American Pickers.

This awesome set was in one of the bedrooms and under feet of books and miscellaneous and dust, inches of dust.  Still, I saw them and knew I had to have them.  They are in surprisingly good condition after cleaning them up - even the white tops!   Made by Cal-Style Furniture Co. Los Angeles, "Nordia" style.

I thought for a minute about keeping the dresser for a future baby/child's room but then I decided to sell and keep the set together. They belong together and I have no need for the rather large desk.

So here they are - pretty fun huh?  and I just love the orange chair!

Dream Mid Century Dresser & Nightstand SCORE!

Friday morning I slept in.   That's unusual but the rest of the day followed my normal pattern; start the coffee, feed my 3 cats, feed my outside cats (strays I take care of that now just live outside my house), pour big cup of coffee, plop myself in front of the computer, open yahoo mail, open etsy, open mac's mail, open craigslist.  I look at Craigslist free section first, always.

Listed in my city was "Free Dresser" and I had a good feeling before I even opened it.  Inside the ad was a very blurry, out of focus picture of a dresser indeed.  I could barely make out what I thought was a peg leg so I wrote the contact.  I'm thinking "No way this will be available.  It's been up on CL for an hour".   I got a reply back.  Long story short, it was in fact a 1950's dresser and matching nightstand for free.  I drove only about 2 miles to get it, loaded it up and now it's in my bedroom.  I'm in love!

The best part, it's in incredible condition - like new.  It's very well made with dovetail drawers and metal drawer slides.  All wood of course with inlaid pattern to create a very subtle diamond in the center doors.  It also came with a matching mirror.  So, just like that, wake up one morning and now I have an incredible bedroom set for free.  Now I just need to find a headboard......and a Danish bedside lamp.....and a new comforter....sheesh, it never ends huh?  Good thing it's fun to hunt!
